Good Tally alternatives for UAE companies are ERPNext, Zoho Books and Odoo. ERPNext suits traders whose accountants like Tally's group-and-ledger logic, Zoho Books offers the simplest move to cloud accounting with UAE VAT, and Odoo fits multi-branch businesses needing sales, warehouse, POS or manufacturing. Ledgers, stock items, godowns and bill-wise balances can be migrated.
Tally has a loyal following in the UAE, especially among trading companies in Deira, Bur Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman whose finance teams learned accounting on it. Keyboard-driven voucher entry is quick, the GCC versions support UAE VAT, and a good TDL developer can add almost any report. Few teams leave Tally because the accounting is weak.
They leave because the business around the ledger has changed. The owner wants to see receivables from his phone while travelling. A second branch in Abu Dhabi needs live stock. Sales staff want quotations and a pipeline, not just sales vouchers. The Tally data file sits on one office PC or a hosted remote desktop, and every customization depends on a single developer who may not be available next year. Purchase approvals still happen on paper or WhatsApp, and godown transfers are entered after the fact.

Accountants posting 200 vouchers a day will resist slow screens. Test bulk entry, journal import and keyboard navigation during the demo.
List every TDL customization and report. Many become standard features elsewhere; the rest must be rebuilt or dropped deliberately.
Map each godown to a warehouse and decide whether branches are separate companies, cost centers or locations in one company.
Cloud ERP removes remote desktop setups and single-PC data files, but it needs reliable internet and user roles designed with care.

A focused Tally migration for a UAE SME often takes 4-10 weeks, depending on branches, history and modules.
Export groups, ledgers, stock groups, stock items, units, godowns and party details. Add TRNs, emirates and payment terms where missing.
Map Tally groups to the new account tree, keeping the structure your auditor recognizes while removing duplicate or dormant ledgers.

We usually migrate masters, opening balances and open bills, then keep earlier years in Tally as a read-only archive. Full voucher history can be imported, but it needs more reconciliation effort.
