What are the alternatives to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in the UAE?

Alternatives to Dynamics 365 Business Central in the UAE include Zoho, Odoo and ERPNext, but switching is not always needed. Common complaints come from carried-over NAV customizations, partner support issues or per-user licensing for wide user bases, which a cleanup, partner change or localization apps may fix. Switching makes most sense when CRM, ecommerce or ownership cost drives the need.

  • Business Central is the successor to Dynamics NAV (Navision).
  • Team Members licenses cover light Business Central users who only view or approve.
  • UAE localization gaps like WPS and gratuity are often closed with apps, not a new ERP.
  • Any platform choice needs a plan for PINT AE e-invoices through an Accredited Service Provider.

Why UAE companies look for a Business Central alternative

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a mature mid-market ERP and the successor to Dynamics NAV (Navision), which many UAE distributors and contractors ran for years. It works well with Microsoft 365, Excel and Power BI, and it has a large partner network. So why do companies search for an alternative?

In our experience the reasons are usually about fit and ownership, not the product core. Some companies were moved from NAV to Business Central with old customizations carried over as extensions, and now every update needs partner testing. Others find that UAE specifics (Arabic tax invoice layouts, VAT return formats, WPS payroll, gratuity) rely on partner apps they did not plan for. Smaller firms feel the per-user licensing when warehouse and sales staff need full access, and service-led firms want CRM and helpdesk in the same system without adding Dynamics 365 Sales or Customer Service. A few simply lost confidence in their original partner.

Disclosure: we are a Microsoft Partner and implement Business Central, as well as Odoo, Zoho and ERPNext. That means the honest answer is sometimes "stay and fix it", through a review by a Business Central consultant or a change of Business Central partner. This page helps you decide between fixing and switching.

Decision factors

Fix Business Central or replace it?

Six factors we look at in every Business Central review before recommending a switch.

State of the extensions

If customizations are the problem, a cleanup or re-implementation may cost less than a new ERP. Count extensions and test them against the next update.

Partner relationship

Many complaints are about support, not software. A partner change keeps your data and training while fixing response times.

Who needs licenses

Map users by role. Team Members licenses cover light users; if most staff need full licenses, compare suite-style pricing.

CRM and service needs

If sales and support teams need deep CRM, ticketing and field service, an all-in-one platform may be simpler than adding more Dynamics apps.

UAE localization coverage

Check Arabic tax invoices, VAT return, corporate tax data, WPS and gratuity. Gaps are often closed by apps without changing ERP.

E-invoicing integration

Whichever platform you keep, plan how PINT AE invoices will flow through an Accredited Service Provider before your deadline.

How It Works

Migration path from Business Central

If switching is the right call, a typical move for a UAE mid-sized company runs 8-16 weeks.

01

Review before you replace

Run a short health check of setup, extensions and licensing so the decision is based on facts, not frustration.

02

Export masters and balances

Extract customers, vendors, items, G/L accounts, dimensions and fixed assets using configuration packages or APIs.

03

Map dimensions and posting groups

Translate global and shortcut dimensions and posting groups into the target system's analytic structure and account rules.

04

Rebuild reports and integrations

Recreate Power BI or account schedule reports, bank interfaces and any e-commerce or WMS connectors, and set up UAE VAT.

05

Parallel period and cut-over

Close one period in both systems, reconcile trial balance and VAT, then keep Business Central data archived for record keeping.

Business Central alternative FAQs

Still have a question? Our consultants are happy to help.

Ask an Expert
Why would a Microsoft Partner write about Business Central alternatives?

Because we implement four platforms and recommend by fit. Sometimes that is Business Central; sometimes it is not. Being clear about both protects your investment.

Is Business Central suitable for small UAE businesses?

It can be, especially for Microsoft-centric firms. Very small companies often prefer lighter tools; see ERP software for small businesses for options.

We are still on Dynamics NAV. Should we move to Business Central or something else?

Compare both. Moving to Business Central keeps familiar concepts but needs customizations rebuilt as extensions. Moving to Odoo or Zoho may suit you better if CRM and e-commerce matter more.

How does Business Central compare with SAP Business One?

Both target mid-sized companies. Business Central integrates more closely with Microsoft 365; SAP Business One suits SAP-based groups. Read the SAP Business One alternative page for that angle.

Can you take over our existing Business Central system?

Yes. As a Microsoft Partner we can review and support an existing tenant, subject to a handover of licenses and extensions from your current partner.
