Make every receipt, pick, transfer and stock count in Odoo a scan instead of a typed entry, with scanners, mobile computers and label printers that suit UAE warehouses and shops.
Yes. Odoo's Barcode app, part of Odoo Enterprise, turns receipts, internal transfers, deliveries, batch picking and inventory counts into scan-by-scan screens. It reads product, lot, serial, package and location barcodes, including GS1-128 and DataMatrix for lots and expiry, and drives Zebra-type label printers. Odoo Community supports product barcodes and POS scanning but not the guided warehouse screens UAE distributors and traders typically need.
Odoo barcode integration in the UAE is about three things working together: barcodes on products, lots, serials, packages and locations; hardware that reads and prints them; and Odoo's Barcode app, which turns receipts, internal transfers, deliveries, batch picking and inventory counts into scan-by-scan screens. The Barcode app is part of Odoo Enterprise. Community users can still store product barcodes and scan in Point of Sale, but the guided warehouse scanning screens are an Enterprise feature.
Typical UAE users are trading companies in Jebel Ali and Al Quoz moving thousands of SKUs, distributors handling lot and expiry-controlled food or pharma products, and retailers scanning at the till. The pain is usually the same: a storekeeper writes quantities on a printed delivery note, and someone types them into Odoo hours later. Scanning at the moment of the movement removes that gap.
This page covers barcode hardware and scanning inside Odoo. For bulk, no-line-of-sight reading see Odoo RFID integration, for the platform-neutral view see ERP barcode integration, and for the underlying warehouse setup see Odoo warehouse management.

The products we configure, integrate and support on projects like this one.
Product names and logos are trademarks of their respective owners and are shown only to identify the software we implement.
These come up in nearly every UAE warehouse we visit before go-live.
Goods are received against a printed PO and the quantities are entered at the end of the day, so stock is wrong for hours and short shipments go unnoticed.
Similar-looking SKUs, such as cable sizes or fittings, are picked by eye. The error is found by the customer, followed by a return and a credit note.
Food, cosmetics and pharma distributors need batch and expiry on every movement, but writing them by hand is skipped when the team is busy.
Suppliers ship with GS1-128 carton labels or EAN codes that do not match the internal item code, so staff relabel everything or type codes.
Full counts on count sheets close the warehouse and the variances are keyed manually, so cycle counting never becomes routine.
Each step is confirmed by a scan in the Barcode app, with exceptions flagged on screen.
One shared database: every step updates stock, finance and reports in real time.
Barcode scanning mostly writes into Odoo rather than syncing between two systems; this is what each scan captures.
| Data | Direction | Trigger / frequency | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product barcode (EAN-13, UPC, internal) | Scanner to Odoo | Every receipt, pick and count | Stored on the product or packaging; multiple barcodes per product via packagings |
| Lot or serial number | Scanner to Odoo | On receipt and pick for tracked products | Can be parsed from GS1 application identifiers |
| Expiry date | Scanner to Odoo | On receipt | Read from GS1 AI (17) where the supplier label carries it |
| Source and destination location | Scanner to Odoo | On putaway, picking and transfers | Location barcodes on racks and bins |
| Package / pallet (SSCC) | Scanner to Odoo | On packing and receiving pallets | Supports scanning whole packages instead of each unit |
| Counted quantity | Scanner to Odoo | Cycle or full count | Feeds inventory adjustments with an approval step |
| Product and location labels | Odoo to printer | On receipt or on demand | ZPL or PDF labels; Arabic text depends on printer fonts |
| Price-embedded barcodes | Scale to Odoo POS | At the till | Weighed items such as produce, read via barcode nomenclature rules |
We check models against your Odoo version and test them on your actual labels before buying in volume.
We go zone by zone so the warehouse never stops working.
We collect supplier labels and existing barcodes, decide where GS1 parsing is needed and which items need internal labels.
Racks, bins and staging areas are set up as Odoo locations with printed location labels, matched to the physical layout.
We test two or three scanner and printer options with real users on receipts and picks, then fix the shortlist.
Receipt, putaway, pick, pack and count flows are configured, including when to force lot entry and when to allow quantity overrides.
Storekeepers and pickers are trained on the device, then each zone switches from paper to scanning with a cycle count to start clean.
Barcode data supports several compliance needs; confirm sector rules with your advisor or regulator.
Food and health product distributors are often asked by authorities and customers to trace a batch to its customers. Scanned lots in Odoo make that report quick to produce.
Accurate inventory movements support cost of sales and closing stock figures used in VAT and corporate tax records, which must be retained for the statutory period.
Excise goods such as energy drinks and tobacco have their own marking rules under the FTA's regime. Odoo can store and scan those codes, but the marking scheme requirements should be confirmed for your products.

Benefits we see when scanning replaces paper; we do not promise specific figures.
Stock levels update as goods move, so sales can promise stock with confidence.
Odoo refuses the wrong product or location at the moment of the scan.
Every batch and expiry is captured without extra paperwork.
Counting a few bins a day replaces disruptive full counts.
We configure the system for the rules UAE businesses report against, and test it before go-live.

Ask an ExpertThe Barcode app with guided receiving, picking and counting screens is part of Odoo Enterprise. Community supports product barcodes and POS scanning, and some third-party apps add scanning, but with less depth.
Any scanner that acts as a keyboard works for basic scanning. For warehouses we usually recommend Android mobile computers so staff see the Odoo screen while scanning. We test models on your labels first.
Yes, Odoo has a GS1 barcode nomenclature that can parse product, lot, expiry and quantity from GS1-128 and DataMatrix codes, provided the supplier's labels follow the standard.
Odoo can generate labels with Arabic text as PDF. For direct ZPL printing on Zebra printers, Arabic depends on the fonts loaded on the printer, so we test before go-live.
Orders from your webshop or marketplaces become Odoo deliveries that are picked by scanning. See Odoo Shopify integration and Odoo Amazon integration for the order side.
For most UAE warehouses barcodes are cheaper and enough. RFID helps when you need bulk reads, such as counting a rail of garments or tracking returnable assets; see our RFID page for that comparison.
